This documentary features a transformative college class that brings UVA students together with residents of a maximum-security juvenile correctional center through the study of Russian literature. The course, “Books Behind Bars,” is the work of lecturer Andrew Kaufman and subject of his recent book.

Previously selected by the 2018 Global Peace Festival, Virginia Film Festival, Richmond International Film Festival, and SXSW EDU, and awarded as a finalist of the Japan Prize International Contest for Educational Media 2019, Seats at the Table takes viewers on a unique and transformative journey alongside these diverse students, who formed powerful relationships that break down initial stereotypes and help them discover their shared humanity.

The special showing will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Chris Farina, the film’s director.

Sponsored by WorldStrides, tickets are free and available to the public.
